Anchored in Respect: Sex & Ethics for Young People (SEYP) has been developed by Full Stop Australia and funded by the Ministry of Health to promote respectful
relationships. The program is based on the Sex & Ethics Framework, developed by Professor Moira Carmody.
About the Program
The program employs a targeted primary prevention approach that invites participants to establish their own ethical framework for relationships and sexuality while equipping them with essential skills to navigate these areas. The 3-Day Program Delivery Training equips participants with the knowledge required to facilitate 5 x 1-hour modules for young people. SEYP covers a range of topics which we have found from our research and practice address many of the concerns and challenges facing young people in diverse settings. Contexts of Delivery:
The SEYP workshop can be delivered across various settings, including youth services, NGOs, public and independent schools, and healthcare services. Factors for
consideration:
- Consent: Participation is voluntary, with adequate information provided to young people and their families to facilitate informed choice.
- Need: Individual safety and support needs must be considered and planned before the program is delivered.
- Safety: Ensuring safety is paramount, considering individual and group dynamics, power inequalities, and shifting emotional responses. Trainers will adopt a trauma-informed approach throughout.
The Approach: Adopting a rights and strengths-based approach to young people's sexual development and exploration involves prioritising their autonomy, dignity, and well-being. Rather than focusing solely on minimising risks, it emphasises empowering them to make informed decisions about their bodies and relationships. This approach acknowledges their inherent rights to comprehensive sexuality education, respectful guidance, and access to supportive resources. By recognising and building on their strengths, it fosters confidence, resilience, and healthy attitudes towards sexuality, enabling young people to navigate their sexual development with agency, understanding, and safety.
Free of Charge Provision: The SEYP workshop must be free to all participants, ensuring equitable access to the program regardless of financial status
